The Crochet Star Pop Bag is a free one skein crochet pattern. Use a cake of Bernat Pop yarn or your favorite worsted weight yarn to get started. Keep reading for the free crochet pattern.

This little bag is the perfect size for all of your day tripping essentials! And while it only uses one skein of yarn, it incorporates a couple of different stitches and techniques that give it a really pretty texture. Nervous about new stitches? No problem! I have some video tutorials to help you out down below.

This was my first time working with Bernat Pop yarn, and I LOVE this Paisly Pop color combo. They also have a few new color combos that you can check out here. If the cake yarn/abrubt color changes are for you-no worries! You can use any worsted weight yarn to make this bag. It would also make a great stash buster.

Star Pop Bag - Free Crochet Pattern
Supplies:
- Bernat Pop yarn - one cake in ‘Paisly Pop’ or approx. 280 yards of a comparable worsted weight yarn. Please note that I used exactly one full cake. You may want to have an extra on hand just in case your tension is slightly different.
- I/5.5mm crochet hook (I use Clover Amour)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- SC: single crochet
- HDC: half double crochet
Special Stitches:
HDC in third loop: instead of working a HDC stitch into the traditional front/back loops, work it into the “third loop” found behind the back loop.
First start stitch of a round: Ch 2, Insert hook into back loop of the second ch from the hook and pull up a loop (2 LOH), insert hook into front loop of the same ch stitch and pull up a loop (3 LOH), insert into the next 3 sts and pull up a loop through each one (6 LOH). YO and pull through all 6 loops, ch 1 to make the "eye" of the star.
Star stitch: Insert hook into the "eye" of the previous star and pull up a loop (2 LOH), insert hook into the last post of the previous star and pull up a loop (3 LOH), insert your hook into the last stitch of the previous star and pull up a loop (4 LOH), insert hook into the next 2 sts and pull up a loop in each one (6 LOH). YO and pull through all 6 loops, ch 1 to make the "eye of the star.
Surface sl st: surface slip stitches are worked like chain stitches, but they are pulled through a layer of crochet (in the case of this pattern, the bag strap) so that it makes an embellishment on the fabric. See video tutorial below if you are not familiar with this technique.
