It's no secret that I am a big fan of Caron Cakes yarn.  I think that it works beautifully for scarves, shawls and wraps particularly because the yarn has a wonderful flow to it.  So when they announced last month that there would be new colors released-of course I had to try them out!  My previous Caron Cakes patterns have been on the cozier side and made for cold winters.  This pattern is a modern scarf that is light and airy and perfect for spring!  I call it a convertible scarf because you can also use it as a shoulder wrap-which is also a perfect accessory for cool spring days or even cool summer nights.

If you are still waiting for your spring days to arrive (like I am!) this scarf is still warm enough for winter weather, while busting out some nice spring colors.  I don't know about you, but after the month of February I am generally done with winter colors, bulky jackets and all of the snuggly things that I am so excited for by the time Autumn rolls around!

Now I know that not everyone loves Caron Cakes or maybe you can't get them where you are located.  Don't worry!  This project would look nice with any worsted weight yarn.  And the round number of rows means that if you want to make your own "Color Block" effect, it will divide out nicely.

Caron Cakes One Skein Scarf - Free Crochet Pattern

Supplies

  • One skein of Caron Cakes yarn or comparable worsted weight yarn (I used 'Strawberry Trifle')
  • I/5.5mm crochet hook (I use Clover Amour)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors (I always keep these travel scissors in my hook case)
  • Tassel Maker (optional)

Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • DC: double crochet
  • DC2Tog: Double crochet two together

Finished Size:

Length - approx. 92" without tassels

Width (widest) - approx. 10.5"

Gauge:

15 sts x 6 rows = 4" square in DC

Pattern Notes:

  • Chain stitches at the beginning of rows DO count as stitches. ch 2=1 DC; ch 3=DC+ch 1
  • Each end of this scarf comes to a point. You start by increasing your stitch count, crochet several rows to "maintain" your stitch count, and then decrease to the next point.
  • If you have broad shoulders and want to wear this project as a wrap, you may want to add extra rows after Row 73 (following the same repeat) before you start decreasing your stitch count. You will increase the length by about 4" for every 6 rows added.

Instructions:

Ch 4

Row 1: DC in the last ch from the hook (the ch 3 counts as a DC and Ch 1) (3)  Turn.
