Crochet Mittens are my Favorite!
I. LOVE. MITTENS. I do! Except that, when things come in pairs...it means you need to keep track of BOTH of them. This is a problem for my scatter-brained mind. So I always like to have a nice stash of mittens going into the winter months. That way, at any given time, I can find at least one pair. Crocheted mittens are truly one of my favorite projects to make for a few reasons. One - they are absolutely useful! These will not lay around the house unused (eh hem...unless I misplace one...) Two - they are typically a one skein project which is kind of my jam. Three - they will fit the hands of just about any adult you want to make them for and they make beautiful gifts!

This pattern will, of course, work with any worsted weight acrylic, wool, or blend you'd like! I did not control my color changes when working from the Sweet Roll yarn, but I had plenty of yarn left over so if you wanted to control your colors so that they didn't switch mid row/randomly you should have enough to make that work! Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy the Frozen Fingers Mittens 🙂

Instructions
Start with a magic circle
Round 1: Ch 1, Work 10 HDC into magic circle, pull tight (10)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 HDC in each stitch around (20)
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 HDC, HDC, repeat from * around (30)
Round 4-15: Ch 1, HDC around (30)
Round 16: Ch 1, HDC, ch 6, skip 2 stitches and HDC around. (28 HDC + 6 ch stitches-this creates the thumb hole)
Round 17-19: Ch 1, HDC around (34)
Round 20: Ch 1, HDC in 6, HDC2tog, HDC in 15, HDC2tog, HDC in 9. (32)
Round 21: Ch 1, HDC around (32)
Round 22: Ch 1, *HDC in 2, HDC2tog, repeat from * around (24)
Round 23-24: Ch 1, HDC around (24)
Round 25: Ch 6 (this does count as a st), QuadTr around (24)
Round 26-27: Ch 1, HDC around (24)
Cut and tie off yarn and continue to attach the thumb
Attaching the thumb:
Round 1: Attach yarn into the thumb hole with a sl st. Ch 1, and work 14 SC around the thumb hole. Some stitches may be worked into "non traditional" spaces such as stitch posts to achieve this number. (14)
Round 2-10: Ch 1, SC around (14)
Round 11: Ch 1, SC2Tog around (7)
Cut and tie yarn leaving a long tail. Using a yarn needle, weave through every other stitch around the top. Pull to cinche the thumb shut and tie off. Weave in all ends.
Finishing:
Decide where you want the buttons at your wrist to be. Take one QuadTr st and twist it to form a loop (1). Working along the round, pull each QuadTr stitch through the previous loop to create a braided effect (2-4). When you reach the last loop, sew the “braid” closed with a button over the last loop (5-6).
