Wintermint Ear Warmer - Free One Skein Crochet Pattern in Child and Adult Sizes
Supplies:
- Lion Brand Scarfie yarn (‘Mint/Silver’ pictured) or approx. 72 yards of comparable Category 5 yarn for an adult size
- J/6.0mm crochet hook - I love Clover Amour or check out these adorable custom polymer clay hooks!
- Scissors - I always keep these travel scissors in my hook case
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations (written in U.S. terms):
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- BLO: back loop only
- SC: single crochet
- HDC: half double crochet

6 sts x 5 rows = 2” square in HDC
Finished Size:
Child

Pattern Notes
- The chain stitches at the beginning of each round/row do not count as a stitch.
- The last stitch of each round is attached to the first stitch of the round with a slip stitch.
- This pattern can be easily adjusted in size in multiples of 2

Child Sized
Bottom Ribbing - Working in Rows
ch 5
Row 1: SC in the second ch from the hook and SC across (4). Turn
Row 2-46: ch 1, working in BLO, SC across (4). Turn.
When you finish the ribbed band, fold it so that Row 1 and 46 are on top of one another. Working through the back loop of Row 46 and the front loop of Row 1, seam the two rows together by slip stitching across. Do not cut your yarn. Continue on to work in rounds along the “raw” edge of ribbed band.
(remember the last stitch of each round is attached to the first stitch of the round with a slip stitch)
Round 1: ch 1, SC around the top of the band working one stitch per row (46).
Round 2: ch 1, HDC around (46)
Round 3: ch 1, *HDC in the first st, HDC in the third loop of the next st, repeat from * around (46
Round 4: ch 1, *HDC in the third loop of the first st, HDC in the next st, repeat from * around (46)
Round 5: ch 1, *HDC in the first st, HDC in the third loop of the next st, repeat from * around (46)
Round 6: ch 1, SC around (46)
Top Ribbing - Working in Rows
Starting where you ended Round 6, ch 5 sts. In the second chain from the hook, SC in the remaining 4 ch stitches. When you get back to the beginning of the ch, sl st into the first st of Round 6. This creates your first row of ribbing.
Row 2: sl st into the next st of Round 6, ch 1, SC in BLO across to create your next row of ribbing. Turn. (4)
Row 3: ch 1, SC in BLO across. Sl st into the next open st of Round 6. (4)
Row 4-46: Repeat Rows 2 (on even rows) and 3 (on odd rows) until you have gone around the entire base of the ear warmer.
After completing Row 46: Working through the BLO of Row 46 and the FLO of your starting chain, sl st across to seam the ribbing together. Tie off yarn and weave in ends.
Adult Sized
