This worsted weight yarn is 100% anti-pilling acrylic and each skein is only 90 yds.  Why the tiny skeins?  Because they are perfect for mixing and matching!  I have no actual insider information, but my guess is that Michaels is trying to succeed with this yarn where Caron Cakes yarn tends to loose some fans - flexible color changes.

Now I do love my Caron Cakes yarn, but I know there are a lot of people who just don't care for the abrupt, mid-row color changes.  Sound like you?  Then this Colorwheel yarn will be perfect for you!  You still have TONS of bright color selections, but in the end, YOU get to choose where the color changes happen.  So whether you use it to simulate the color blocks that a "cake yarn" creates or you change colors more often, this yarn has an amazing color selection for you to work with.

Are you perhaps a little timid about mixing and matching your own colors?  I'll admit, one of the things I love most about self-striping yarn is that it does all of the color choosing for me.  But fear not!  Pinterest has a PLETHORA of color inspiration swatches, and I have a whole board dedicated to them here.  You could also try to replicate one of your favorite cake yarns, too!  You may notice that my color choices for this scarf are sneakily close to those of the now discontinued Macaron Caron Cakes color.  However you decide to use them, I think you will love these lovely little skeins!

Spring Market Mod Scarf - Free Crochet Pattern

Supplies

  • Loops and Threads Colorwheel Yarn-I used one skein of 'Lime', one skein of 'Purple Pink', and two skeins of 'Purple'
  • J/6.0mm crochet hook (I use Clover Amour)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors (I always keep these travel scissors in my hook case)
  • Tassel Maker (optional)

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • SC: single crochet
  • DC: double crochet
  • SC2Tog: Single crochet two together

Finished Size:

Length (without tassels) = approx. 68"

Width (widest point) = approx. 14"

Gauge:

14 sts x 14 rows = 4" square in SC

Pattern Notes

  • Chain stitches at the beginning of SC rows do NOT count as stitches.
  • Chain stitches at the beginning of "DC, ch 1" rows DO count as stitches (ch 3 = DC+ch 1). The second chain stitch is essentially the "top" of your DC, and the 3rd chain stitch is the "chain 1".
  • Each end of this scarf comes to a point. One edge of the scarf will be straight and the other will form a triangular shape. All of your increases and decreases will occur on the same side of the scarf to make this shape.
