This crochet mitten video tutorial for beginners will walk you through every step you need to know about constructing a mitten from one of my free patterns. If you master this technique to make mittens for the whole family with my free crochet patterns.
I have been designing a lot of mitten patterns this winter you guys! But my very first mitten pattern was The Perfect Fit Mittens and they are still one of my "go-to" pieces. They are great for learning, teaching, gifting and selling. If fact the original reason I wrote this pattern was to sell at craft fairs, and now it is one of my most useful patterns when I teach crochet classes through my local community education. So now, I have turned this popular pattern into a video tutorial so that you can learn to crochet mittens from start to finish. And don't worry - I have both right and left handed videos so no matter what I've got you covered!
Learning to crochet "in the round" is so useful because it allows you to make hats, bags, rugs, mittens, pillows and all kinds of other amazing projects. This video tutorial will cover every skill you will need to make a basic, beginner-friendly mitten. And the great news is that if you can crochet a hat, you can most certainly crochet a mitten! This pattern is basic and easily lends itself to customization. Play with colors, stripes...you name it! Once you master this technique you have endless options ahead!
So now you're ready to learn how to crochet, right?! Grab your hook and yarn and follow along with me 🙂
- Any worsted weight yarn (approx. 160 yards) When learning I recommend an acrylic yarn with little/no extra texture or fuzz. I also recommend that you use a light color and avoid black, dark grey, nave, etc. Texture and dark colors make the stitch spaces harder to see.
- 5.0mm (I) Hook (I used Clover Amour)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors (I always keep these Fiskars Travel Scissors in my hook case)
- I recommend that you reference the written pattern for The Perfect Fit Mittens as you work so that you can also become familiar with reading crochet patterns.
