Almost exactly a year ago, I published my pattern for a Double Crochet Hat in 10 Sizes, and I have to say that I think it is still one of my most practical and useful patterns to date! It is so handy to have these basic crochet patterns in your collection. They are great for learning, teaching, gifting and selling. If fact the original reason I wrote this pattern was to sell at craft fairs, and now it is one of my most useful patterns when I teach crochet classes through my local community education. So now, I have turned this popular pattern into a video tutorial so that you can learn to crochet a hat from start to finish. And don't worry - I have both right and left handed videos so no matter what I've got you covered!
Learn How to Crochet a Hat from the Top Down
Learning to crochet "in the round" is so useful because it allows you to make hats, bags, rugs, mittens, pillows and all kinds of other amazing projects. This video tutorial will cover every skill you will need to make a basic premie sized baby hat. Once you get this one down, check out my written pattern here for all 10 sizes! You can make a hat for anyone in your family. Play with colors, stripes, animal faces...you name it! Once you master this technique you have endless options ahead!

Supplies:
- Any worsted weight yarn. When learning I recommend an acrylic yarn with little/no extra texture or fuzz. I also recommend that you use a light color and avoid black, dark grey, nave, etc. Texture and dark colors make the stitch spaces harder to see.
- 5.5mm (I) Hook (I used Clover Amour)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors (I always keep these Fiskars Travel Scissors in my hook case)
- I recommend that you reference the written pattern for the Double Crochet Hat in 10 Sizes as you work so that you can also become familiar with reading crochet patterns.
