Use Blanket Yarn for Cleaning with this Crochet Pattern Set
After making my Quick and Thick Sweeper Cover, I realized the magic that is using Bernat Blanket yarn for cleaning!
It's soft, chenille-like texture makes it super soft, very absorbant, washable and durable. Overall it is very similar in its cleaning power to a microfiber cloth (which I also love).
Why do I love these crochet sponges so much?
- They pick up crumbs and hair. This makes them great for cleaning things like bathroom vanities and kitchen counter tops.
- They are reusable. Just like my Quick and Thick Sweeper Cover, using these helps me reduce my waste!
- The addition of the scrubby yarn woven in (optional) gives it a little extra cleaning power.
- They work up so quickly, can really be made in any size, and are a great use for left over scraps!
Here is a before and after shot of cleaning my flat top stove with only water:

Supplies needed:
- Bernat Blanket yarn (a few yards)
- Red Heart Scrubby (optional)
- Size 9.0 mm crochet hook (I use Clover Amour)
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
Quick and Thick Scrubby Sponge Crochet Pattern:
Ch 11 (with blanket yarn alone or with a strand of blanket and a strand of scrubby)
Row 1: SC in second ch from hook and SC across (10).
Row 2-7: Ch 1. SC across (10)-if you are using the Scrubby yarn, stop using this strand here.
Edging: Ch 1. SC around the edge of the sponge. Tie off and weave in ends.
These would be great to make up for yourself, as a gift set, or for summer craft sales!
