It's here by popular request! The Amelia Poncho Adult Sweater. The original Amelia Poncho Toddler Sweater was such a hit-and I had so many requests for more sizes-that I HAD to make an adult size. (ehh I may have also wanted one for myself.

The toddler sized poncho was made with Caron Cakes yarn, and I loved that result! However, I opted to make the adult sized poncho with Wool-Ease Tonal yarn for a few reasons. One, I didn't think the color blocking effect with Caron Cakes would work as well on a larger piece. Two, this yarn is is bulky and therefore works up much faster for this size!

Gauge:
10 sts x 7 rows = 4" in HDC
Finished Size:
Shoulder to waist = 27"
Width = 26"
Pattern Notes:
- Ch stitches at the beginning of rows do not count as a stitch
- This pattern is written to fit up to a size XL. It is not a fitted pattern. If you want to make it smaller or larger, adjust foundation chain in increments of 6 (make sure your neck hole is still centered when you reach row 41). Also, you can add or subtract rows to lengthen or shorten the garment.
Instructions
Ch 72
Row 1: In third ch from hook, HDV, *skip 2, HDV, repeat from * across (24 HDV sts)
Row 2-40: Ch 2, HDV in the ch space and in all the ch spaces across (24 HDV sts)
Row 41: Ch 2, HDV in next 7 ch spaces, Ch 30, skip 10 ch spaces, HDV in last 7 ch spaces
Row 42: Ch 2, HDV across, working 10 HDV sts into the chain stitches (you will have to go into a ch stitch, not just the space) (24 HDV sts)
Row 43-81: Ch 2, HDV across (24 HDV sts)
When you reach the end of the last row, ch 1 and SC around the entire piece until you come back to the corner where you started. This creates the SC edging.
To create the ribbed edging (on the long sides of the poncho):
Ch 9, SC in second ch from the hook, *sl st to the SC stitch of your SC edging, sl st into the next st, ch 1, BLO SC across, ch 1 and turn, BLO SC across, repeat from * until you finish that side of the poncho.
SC across the short edge of the poncho (Row 1 or 81), repeat the ribbing when you get to the next corner, SC across the second short edge (Row 1 or 81). Do not tie off. Continue with the same ribbed edging instructions to create a ribbed edging along the short side of the poncho. When you reach the end, cut and tie off yarn. Attach the yarn with a sl st in the corner on the other side of the garment and repeat the process so that both short sides also have ribbed edging. Tie off yarn and weave in ends.
To create the neck:
The ch sts in Row 41 created a head hole in the middle of the poncho. SC around this hole once (this will be approximately 60-62 stitches around). Join to your first SC with sl st. Ch 14, and repeat the ribbing process described for the ribbed edging (but with 13 SC instead of 8). When you finish the entire neck, seam the ends together by working sl sts through your first and last rows of ribbing.
Adding buttons:
The buttons on this are optional, but I like that it keeps the poncho together! I selected 8 buttons and evenly spaced them in the bottom third of the poncho. Using a yarn needle, sew through BOTH layers of the poncho. You could also work through just the front layer of the poncho if you want the front and back to be loose.
